
The film which was directed and written by Shane Abbess, which was also written for the screen by Matt Hylton Todd, and which also starred Dwaine Stevenson, Samantha Noble, Michael Piccirilli, Erika Heynatz, and Jack Campbell, tells the story of Gabriel the archangel who fights to bring light back to purgatory - a place where darkness rules - and save the souls of the city's inhabitants. He made his actual film debut playing the lead role of 'Gabriel' in the action fantasy horror film of the same name, "Gabriel" (2007).

He eventually settled in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, where he also attended and studied acting at the Screenwise Film & TV School for Actors. He later moved to Lidcombe, New South Wales, Australia, to pursue an acting career beginning in 1999. During this time he also became a fashion model and he took part in approximately 40 advertising campaigns in Europe and Asia.

He later studied engineering at the prestigious Sheffield Hallam University in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and later worked as an engineer and building inspector for a consulting agency. He was educated locally and attended Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones Community School, a mixed bilingual school for pupils between 11 and 18 years in Pentrefelin, Isle of Anglesey, Wales. He was born one of two children as Andrew Whitfield in Amlwch, Anglesey, Wales, to Robert Whitfield and his wife Pat Whitfield on October 17, 1971. He is also remembered for playing the role of 'Spartacus' with his voice only in the prequel television mini-series, "Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena" (2011), which also starred John Hannah, Manu Bennett, and Peter Mensah. He will be best remembered for playing the lead role of the character 'Spartacus' in thirteen episodes of the action-adventure biographical television series, "Spartacus: Blood And Sand" in 2010, which also starred Lucy Lawless and Manu Bennett.
